Keep your outdoor gathering more comfortable with our Outdoor Mosquito Control System, designed for events where a rented tent isn’t needed—whether guests are gathered in a backyard, on a deck or patio, under a carport or covered structure, inside a garage, beneath a customer-provided tent or canopy, or even in an open-yard environment.

This system helps reduce mosquitoes and other flying insects around your event space using a combination of perimeter insect reduction and localized mosquito repellent protection.

By using both methods together, this setup helps improve comfort—especially during evening events when mosquito activity is typically at its highest 🌙.

⚙️ How the System Works

Perimeter Protection

A commercial-grade Flowtron bug zapper is positioned approximately 15–30 feet away from your gathering area. These units use ultraviolet light, gentle heat, and a mosquito attractant to help lure mosquitoes and other flying insects away from guests.

Once drawn to the unit, insects are eliminated by the internal electric grid. Proper placement helps redirect insect activity away from seating and dining areas.

Localized Protection

To help reduce mosquitoes where guests are seated or dining, a Thermacell unit is placed in the same area of you and your guests. This device heats a scent-free mosquito-repellent with its rechargeable battery to produce an area of protection. Multiple devices may be needed, depending on the size of your event.

⚠️ Important: The Thermacell unit is not waterproof and is not designed to be left directly exposed to rain or heavy moisture. It must be placed under some form of cover if it begins to rain or even a drizzle.

  • Bug zapper: 45–60 minutes prior

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

Will this eliminate all mosquitoes?
Possibly, but there is no guarantee. The system will certainly reduce mosquito and flying insect activity and possibly eliminate them completely. However; weather, wind, nearby vegetation, standing water, mosquito infestation and how many units you rent will affect the overall outcome. 

Can the Thermacell unit be left outside in the rain?
❌ No. The Thermacell unit is not waterproof and must be placed under a covered area to avoid rain or heavy moisture exposure.

Where are the units placed?
The Flowtron bug zapper is placed approximately 15–30 feet away from your seating or gathering area to help draw insects away. The Thermacell unit is placed near your guests to create a localized mosquito-repellent zone.

Do the units make noise?
The bug zapper may produce occasional “zapping” sounds, which is normal and indicates insects are being eliminated. The Thermacell unit operates silently.

Is there any smell?
The Flowtron unit may emit a very mild odor during operation; however, it is placed far enough away from guests that it goes unnoticed. The Thermacell system is designed to be scent-free for guests, and most people do not notice any odor during normal use.

Do I need to do anything during the rental?
Typically no. For multi-day rentals, the Thermacell unit may need to be recharged approximately every 6–7 hours of use. Instructions are provided if needed.

Does this require electricity?
Yes. The Flowtron bug zapper requires a standard household outlet. The Thermacell unit is rechargeable. We provide you with the charger for multiple day use.

How many units should I get?
This really depends on the location of your event. Some areas may have many mosquitoes, while another area may have none. Different times of the summer have varying amounts of mosquitoes as well. Mosquitoes can ruin an event, so we recommend 1 - 3 units depending on the size of your event. 

What happens if it rains?
The Flowtron bug zapper is designed for outdoor use and can operate in light rain. The Thermacell device is NOT waterproof, it must remain under a covered area and protected from rain.
