Mosquito Control for Tents
π¦ Mosquito Control System
Help create a more comfortable environment for your outdoor tented event with our Tent Mosquito Control System, a dual-method approach designed to reduce mosquitoes and other flying insects where guests gather most.
This system uses two coordinated technologies to improve overall effectiveness:
- Perimeter insect reduction to help draw insects away from the tent
- Under-tent mosquito repellent protection to help reduce mosquito activity around guest seating and dining areas
By combining both approaches, this setup helps improve comfort during evening and nighttime events when mosquito activity is typically at its peak.
βοΈ How the System Works
Perimeter Protection β Attraction & Reduction
A commercial-grade Flowtron bug zapper is positioned approximately 15β30 feet away from the tent. These units use ultraviolet light, gentle heat, and a mosquito attractant to help lure mosquitoes and other flying insects away from the tent area.
Once drawn to the unit, insects are eliminated by the internal electric grid. Proper placement helps redirect insect activity away from guest seating and dining areas.
Under-Tent Protection β Mosquito Repellent Zone
To help reduce mosquitoes inside the tent itself, a rechargeable Thermacell unit is placed under the tent near guest seating areas.
This portable system creates a scent-free mosquito-repellent zone that helps deter mosquitoes from entering or lingering inside the tent space.
- Each cartridge provides up to 40 hours of mosquito repellent
- The unit operates approximately 6.5 hours per battery charge
- Designed to run during peak mosquito activity periods such as dusk and evening hours π
π Designed for Multi-Day Rentals
This system is able to accommodate a standard 3-day rental period when used primarily during times of peak mosquito activity (evening and nighttime).
For multi-day events:
- The Thermacell unit can be easily recharged between uses π
- Repellent cartridges are included for typical rental durations
- Bug zappers are designed for continuous outdoor operation

- Thermacell units remain inside the tent near seating areas
- Most effective for evening and nighttime events when mosquito activity increases
β Frequently Asked Questions
Will this eliminate all mosquitoes?
Possibly, but there is no guarantee. The system will certainly reduce mosquito and flying insect activity and possibly eliminate them completely. However; weather, wind, nearby vegetation, standing water, mosquito infestation and how many units you rent will affect the overall outcome.
Where are the units placed?
The bug zapper is placed approximately 15β30 feet away from the tent to help draw insects away from guests. The Thermacell unit is placed inside the tent near seating or dining areas to create a localized mosquito-repellent zone.
Do the units make noise?
The bug zapper may produce occasional βzappingβ sounds, which is normal and indicates insects are being eliminated. The Thermacell unit operates silently.
Is there any smell?
The Flowtron unit may emit a very mild odor during operation; however, it is placed far enough away from guests that it goes unnoticed. The Thermacell system is designed to be scent-free for guests, and most people do not notice any odor during normal use.
Do I need to do anything during the rental?
Typically no. For multi-day rentals, the Thermacell unit may need to be recharged approximately every 6β7 hours of use. Simple instructions are provided if needed.
Does this require electricity?
Yes. The Flowtron bug zapper requires a standard household outlet. The Thermacell unit is rechargeable. The Thermacell will come already fully charged. We also provide you with the charger for when multiple days of mosquito protection are needed.
When should the system be turned on?
For best results:
- Bug zapper: 45β60 minutes before guests arrive
- Thermacell: 10β15 minutes before guests arrive
Mosquito activity typically increases at dusk.
Will this work if my tent has sidewalls?
Yes. The Thermacell unit is especially helpful when sidewalls are installed because it helps reduce mosquitoes that may enter when guests move in and out of the tent.
What happens if it rains?
The Flowtron bug zapper is designed for outdoor use and can operate in light rain. The Thermacell unit is placed under the tent for protection, it must remain under the tent and protected from rain.
